Take a Breather, America

Maybe everyone should go to the beach for a few weeks and quit thinking about who will run for President. Photo Author's Own.

America needs to find a distraction from the presidential obsession. In Sunday’s New York Times we have an article about Republican presidential hopefuls visiting New Hampshire.

Remember we are fully 31 months away from Election Day 2016. I mean, it is even seven months away from the midterm elections!

The article about the Republicans discussed prominent national Republicans courting prominent New Hampshire Republicans. Senators Ted Cruz and Rand Paul both spoke at the New Hampshire Freedom Summit. Apparently, this summit of New Hampshire Republican activists could pick the next President. I find that hard to believe, since in 1992 Paul Tsongas won New Hampshire and in 2008 Hillary Clinton won New Hampshire and in 2000 John McCain swamped George W Bush in the Granite State. None of the three became won their party’s nomination.

Another article in the New York Times discussed Bill and Hillary Clinton’s diet. A famous doctor, Mark Hyman, has been responsible for Bill’s conversion to healthier eating.  The doctor, who has become a personal friend of Hillary Clinton, has embarked upon a mission to help Americans eat better.  His diet, by the way, seems in line with the Michael Pollen paleo-ish movement: eat food, not too much, mostly plants. Stay off of the highly processed stuff. New York Times writer Amy Chozick penned the piece, which makes sense since she has been assigned to cover Hillary Clinton full time between now and Election Day 2016. Hillary Clinton, who currently holds no public office, has a New York Times reporter covering her full time! That is how President-crazy our media has become.

All the coverage of the Chris Christie bridge scandal has been from the angle that he was supposed to be the Republican nominee for president in 2016. Before a single primary vote was cast, that had been decided by the media.

The point is, these articles appeared alongside good stories about the 2014 midterms. There are plenty of things going on now. At this point in 1990 Bill Clinton himself was only widely known in Arkansas. Everyone is jumping the gun.
